DESCRIPTION |
| | TOUCHABLES, THE Svart / Hvitt Label : Conrad Sounds Year : 2020 Format : CD Style : Rock Availability : In stock
Price : 12.40 € - BUY
| | | | Description : | In contrast to their debut from 2017, The Touchables do not rely on short pieces reduced to two instruments, but on four long works between 10 and 17 minutes and a richer instrumentation. What remains, however, is the reduced and post-rock-like approach. The opening piece of simply numbered pieces builds up slowly, the individual instruments slowly emerge from a barely definable noise. A subliminal, but also involuntarily driving percussion mixes in and allows the piece to meander ever more effervescently towards its end. However, at no point does it become excessive or loud.
'II' also remains reduced, is somewhat frayed and allows the individual instruments to be clearly recognized. A kind of 'post-contemporary' is on offer here. 'III' opens with noise and percussion, probably produced on string instruments. This piece rolls along a bit slowly for over 10 minutes without much happening other than a few sound effects with a variety of instruments. It only becomes a little musical when the wind instruments start at minute 11. The last piece also slowly creeps out and only works with very reduced sounds.
Svart/Hvitt is an extremely quiet album from the contemporary jazz sector. This is quite exciting and even pleasant for long stretches, but in some places there isn't enough happening for me. Nevertheless, all in all a success.
